Inis-Ceol
Inis-Ceol plays a variety of venues, including house parties,
fundraisers, masses, and weddings. Inis-Ceol is a metro-Detroit Irish
traditional music group consisting of Tom Dooley
on vocals and guitar, Marilyn Hotaling
on fiddle, and Icie Marie Frady-Alley on
keyboard, vocals and bodhran. The name Inis-Ceol means "island
music" in Irish Gaelic.The group performs mostly Irish music,
but also includes in its repertoire many Scottish tunes and songs,
as well as music from other parts of the Celtic world.
Before
becoming Inis-Ceol, Icie, Tom and Marilyn participated in the Detroit
chapter of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ
- Irish Musicians Association) between 1990 and 1994. Formed originally
under the name of the Shillelagh Saddle Tramps, the group coalesced
into its present form in 1993, and has been a part of the Detroit
Irish music scene ever since.
Tom Dooley
A fifth-generation railroader of Irish descent, Tom Dooley played
drums in a rock band in high school, eventually re-discovering the
Irish music of his boyhood during his college years. As lead vocalist
in Inis-Ceol, Tom gives the rich vocal base for the group. Contact

Marilyn Hotaling
Originally trained as a classical violinist, Marilyn Hotaling began
her traditional music playing with the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club
in 1984. She became interested in Irish music with her participation
in Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Marilyn has a
degree in Stringed Music Education, and gives private violin and fiddle
lessons. As the lead instrumentalist of the group, Marilyn provides
the tunes as well as an occasional whistle and guitar accompaniment
for the songs.

Icie Marie Frady-Alley
Icie has been a part of the Detroit music scene for many years, having
performed with well-known local performers, including Jim Buckingham,
Larry Larson and Jim Perkins.She has performed on stage at the Dublin
Inn, the Tipperary Pub and the Gaelic
League, and the Innisfree Inn in Chicago.She was honored in 1997
with a nomination for Grand Marshall of the Detroit St. Patrick's
Day Parade.
As the keyboard player and vocalist for the group, Icie provides the
full, rich harmonies beneath the songs and tunes, which helps to give
Inis-Ceol its unique sound. Her bodhran lends verve and authenticity to

In 1995, Inis-Ceol provided a portion of the
background music for the Stewart Franke release, Where the
River Meets the Bay.
In February of 1996, Inish-Ceol presented a
two-hour program on traditional Irish music and culture, sponsored
by the Eastern Michigan University Continuing Education Department
In March of 1996, Inis-Ceol provided the background
music for the Toledo Public Television (WGTE) video, Cornerstones:
the Irish in Toledo
In 1998, the group released
its first CD, Inis-Ceol.
